Captain Leo Winwood was a Detective on the Chicago Police Department.
Biography[]
Leo Winwood had a long career as a police officer, and during that time he developed a bitter enmity for reporter Carl Kolchak. Unbeknownst to anyone, Winwood was corrupt and working under the payroll of The Syndicate. Winwood helped them murder Haitian numbers runner Francois Edmonds, either looking the other way or helping them kill him.
Winwood was running a SWAT raid on Syndicate members the Russo Brother’s house when Kolchak and Monique Marmelstein arrived. Winwood berates Kolchak after Marmelstein blunders directly into the line of Fire, only for the Russo Brothers to stop shooting. After going into their home, Winwood discovers them dead and nest ot Edmonds’ corpse, and forbids pictures. Realizing that everyone who had aided in the killing of Edmonds was dying, Winwood became paranoid and tried to keep the case as secret as possible; he dismissed the presence of Edmonds’s corpse being repeatedly exhumed as Haitian practices. Following the murder of Syndicate member Victor Friese, Winwood took Kolchak into custody and interrogated him. He refused to believe Kolchak’s claims that Edmonds was a zombie.
Kolchak later discovered Winwood’s corruption, and that he was a target of Edmonds. Winwood, afraid Kolchak could expose him, began to threaten INS, and when Kolchak warned him of Edmonds once more, he angrily dismissed Kolchak’s claims, and reacted violently to Kolchak’s accusations of his corruption. Shortly after Kolchak stoped Edmonds, Winwood was fires for “health reasons”.
